Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

New to printing visitor guides? Here are answers to the questions we hear most from chambers, CVBs, and agencies.

How many copies should I print?

It depends on your distribution strategy and budget. For a small city, 5,000–10,000 copies may be perfect. For a regional or county guide, 25,000–100,000 is common. State guides often run 250,000 to over a million. We'll help you find the right quantity based on your goals — and unit costs drop significantly at higher volumes.

What's the difference between saddle stitched and perfect bound?

Saddle stitched guides are folded and stapled along the spine — like a typical magazine. They're great for guides up to about 96 pages and are the most cost-effective option. Perfect bound guides are glued into a flat spine like a paperback book, giving a more premium feel. They're ideal for thicker guides (64+ pages) and tend to be kept longer by travelers. Not sure which is right for you? We'll recommend the best option based on your page count and budget.

I've never ordered print before. Can you help me figure out what I need?

Absolutely. Most of our clients aren't print experts — they're tourism directors, chamber executives, and marketing coordinators. Just tell us about your destination and your goals, and we'll guide you through every decision: page count, paper type, binding, finishing, and quantity. We'll explain each option in plain English and help you make the best choice for your budget.

How long does production typically take?

Production timelines vary based on quantity, binding type, and finishing options. Saddle-stitched guides typically take 1–2 weeks from proof approval. Perfect-bound guides may take 1–3 weeks. We'll give you an exact timeline with your quote and keep you updated throughout production. If you have a hard deadline — like a tourism season or event launch — let us know and we'll work to meet it.

Do you provide design and file preparation guidance?

While we don't design your guide, we provide detailed file preparation specs and templates to ensure your files are print-ready. We'll review your files before production and flag any issues. If you're working with a designer, we're happy to coordinate directly with them to make sure everything meets our production standards.

Can you handle distribution and mailing?

Yes. We offer comprehensive distribution services including co-mailing, drop-shipping to multiple locations, and list management. Whether your guides need to go to visitor centers, hotels, rack distribution services, or direct mail, we can handle the logistics. Just let us know your distribution needs when you request a quote.

What areas do you serve?

We're based in Ohio and serve clients across the Northeast and Midwest United States. Our central location means efficient shipping to most destinations in these regions. For large-volume projects, we can coordinate distribution nationwide — just ask.

How far in advance should we plan our visitor guide?

We recommend planning upwards of 90 days out from your desired delivery date. Paper mill lead times can often be 4–6 weeks depending on the paper grade and type, so ordering paper early is one of the most important things you can do to keep your project on schedule. The good news? Once paper is secured, our high-speed production and bindery lines move quickly. Reach out early and we'll help you build a timeline that works.

Is there a minimum order quantity?

Our minimum for visitor guide production is 5,000 copies. This is because our high-speed web presses are designed for efficient volume production. If you need fewer than 5,000 copies, we'd be happy to discuss options or refer you to a partner who specializes in smaller digital runs.
